collage of acrylic medium transfers of digital photographs & typed text on paper
set of four sheets
8" x 11"
I. ‘the flag waved in the wind.’ the line of the border, measured & inscribed. the land looks yellow / yellow-orange on either side. except these colours change, at different times of day. you assume this world is rooted-in-water. you assume there will be a wait at the barrier. you assume the view on the other side isn't the same.
II. ‘a wave of treetops stretched to the horizon.’ ‘gulls & cormorants bobbed on the waves.’ & light travelling across the scene from left to right. in this diagram the waves can be seen entering your eye. they have been spaced apart for the sake of clarity.
III. ‘he waved a sheaf of papers in the air.’ ‘a new wave of apprehension assailed him.’ the gate opens, making a gap you move through. look how your behaviour conforms to your understanding of yourself. whatever you do, it stays exactly the same distance away from you.
IV. ‘he waved the objection aside, & carried on.’ ‘he gave a little wave, & walked off.’ a wave doesn't stop at the end of the medium. it doesn't matter which direction you choose. this is cool enough to touch, now. this is warm enough to hold, now. look how we all end up on a single side. look how the waves keep coming in.
